NYC Mayor Declares State of Emergency, Imposes Travel Ban Amid Storm

(MENAFN) New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has declared a state of emergency and imposed a travel ban as a severe winter storm hits the region, according to reports. The ban runs from 9 p.m. Sunday (0200 GMT Monday) to 12 p.m. Monday (1700 GMT). Neighboring New Jersey has also enacted a travel restriction, barring vehicles from roads, bridges, and highways.

States of emergency are currently in effect across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut as the storm sweeps through the northeastern United States.

Weather forecasts predict 12 to 18 inches of snow and wind speeds up to 55 mph in New York City, potentially ranking it among the strongest winter storms in recent years.

Flight-tracking data indicate significant travel disruptions: two-thirds of incoming flights and 302 departures at John F. Kennedy International Airport have been canceled, with 95 delayed.

LaGuardia Airport has seen 243 cancellations and 122 delays, while Newark Airport reported 195 canceled flights and 106 delays.
